JOTHAM HUNG tends to the broken. His ceramic works reimagine the “waste” of clay making—exploded pieces from the kiln, excess material, shattered forms—to comment on the scarcity mindset of immigrant families, informed by his own upbringing as a first-generation Taiwanese-American. Themes of de- and re-construction, part and whole, damage and repair express the connection between art and life. Hung has taught at the ArtCenter College of Design, the American Museum of Ceramic Art, and Xiem Clay Center. His work has been shown in numerous museums and galleries.
